SUMMARY:Public Affairs Conference - Faith-based communities: Unifying or d
 ivisive?
DESCRIPTION:Panel Session\n\n\nA united community is a community willing t
o support both diversity and individual success. A willingness to pursue
unity can facilitate a supportive environment for both groups and individ
uals alike. Research suggests that faith-based communities share a synerg
ism in the application of volunteerism and social change. Belief-based pr
actices may lead to increased cultural competence and community engagemen
t\, as well as transform the future of health and wellness. However\, som
e faiths are exclusive rather than inclusive\, and this can breed divisiv
eness. How can the ideal of compassion\, found in the world’s religions\,
lead to a better society and a more peaceful world?\n\n\nPublic Affairs
 Conference held Sept. 25-27\, 2018.
