SUMMARY:MSU Opera Hosts baritone Dr. Matthew Hoch in Recital
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Matthew Hoch will join our own Dr. Hye-Jung Hong in a reci
 tal of music by Schumann\, Jocelyne Binet and duets with our own Dr. Ann 
 Marie Wilcox-Daehn. \n\n\nDr. Hoch maintains a multi-faceted musical care
 er as a professional baritone\, teacher of singing\, choral conductor\, l
 ecturer and scholar. After early training in woodwinds and piano\, Dr. Ho
 ch graduated from the Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Arts as a sa
 xophone major before devoting his career to voice performance\, pedagogy 
 and literature. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree\, summa cum laude\, f
 rom Ithaca College with a triple major in vocal performance\, music educa
 tion and music theory. He later earned a Master of Music degree from the 
 Hartt School with a double major in vocal performance and music history\,
  followed by a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in vocal performance from th
 e New England Conservatory. In 2015\, he completed the Certificate in Voc
 ology at the National Center for Voice and Speech in Salt Lake City. \n\n
 \nDr. Hoch is currently associate professor of voice and coordinator of v
 oice studies at Auburn University\, as well as choirmaster and minister o
 f music at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Auburn\, Alabama. Previous po
 sitions include assistant professor of voice and coordinator of voice stu
 dies at Shorter College\, as well as choirmaster and director of music at
  St Peter's Episcopal Church in Rome\, Georgia.\n\n\nHe maintains an acti
 ve schedule as a performer and lecturer\, and is the author of three book
 s\, including "A Dictionary for the Modern Singer" (2014)\, "Welcome to C
 hurch Music &amp; The Hymnal 1982" (2015) and "Voice Secrets: 100 Performance
  Strategies for the Advanced Singer" (2016)\, coauthored with Linda Liste
 r. He is also editor of the recently published "So You Want to Sing Sacre
 d Music" (2017) and "So You Want to Sing CCM" (2018). Dr. Hoch is the 201
 6 winner of the Van L. Lawrence Fellowship\, awarded jointly by the Voice
  Foundation and NATS. He is currently president of NYSTA\, an organizatio
 n in which he has served as vice president (2012–2017)\, as well as edito
 r-in-chief of VOICEPrints (2008–2016).
