SUMMARY:Tu Bishvat
DESCRIPTION:Religion/Culture: Judaism\n\n\nOn Tu B'Shevat we celebrate a N
ew Year for the Trees\, rejoicing in the fruit of the tree and the fruit
of the vine\, celebrating the splendid\, abundant gifts of the natural wo
rld which give our senses delight and our bodies life.\n\n\nTu B'Shevat m
arks the beginning of spring in Israel. Sustaining rains are at the peak
of their power and the world responds\, brimming with buds of fragrant li
fe. To mark this moment\, school children plant trees. Often these trees
have been provided by the contributions of Jewish students abroad through
the good offices of the Jewish National Fund.\n\n\nFor Jews outside of I
srael\, Tu B'Shevat is a celebration of the renewal of vision and awarene
ss\, a celebration of connections and connectedness--to our own inner-sel
ves\, to the social world of human beings\, and to the natural world and
its Source. More information\n\n\nRecognizing the Holiday/Festival: Commo
n practice is planting trees.\n\n\nThis calendar listing is intended to p
rovide information about the named cultural/religious observation and is
not intended as an actual campus event. If a campus event is associated w
ith this observance\, it will be listed separately on the master calendar.
