SUMMARY:Eid Al-Adha
DESCRIPTION:Eid al-Adha or Feast of Sacrifice is the most important feast
of the Muslim calendar. It concludes the Pilgrimage to Mecca. Eid al-Adha
lasts for three days and commemorates Ibraham's (Abraham) willingness to
obey God by sacrificing his son. Muslims believe the son to be Ishmael r
ather than Isaac as told in the Old Testament. Ishmael is considered the
forefather of the Arabs. According to the Koran\, Ibrahim was about to sa
crifice his son when a voice from heaven stopped him and allowed him to s
 acrifice a ram instead.\n\n\nThe feast re-enacts Ibrahim's obedience by s
acrificing a cow or ram. The family eats about a third of the meal and do
nates the rest to the poor.\n\n\nThis calendar listing is intended to pro
vide information about the named cultural/religious observation and is no
t intended as an actual campus event. If a campus event is associated wit
h this observance\, it will be listed separately on the master calendar.
