SUMMARY:Facilitating Victim-Offender Dialogues: A Restorative Justice Trai
ning
DESCRIPTION:This training will prepare students and community volunteers t
o facilitate dialogues between someone who has committed an offense and t
he person/people impacted by the offense. This process will be applied to
two types of case referals: juvenile offenders referred by the Green Cou
nty Juvenile Office\, and Missouri State students who have violated the u
niversity Code of Student Rights & Responsibilities.\n\n\nVictim-offender
dialogue is a facilitated discussion between someone whose offense has c
aused harm and those impacted by the person's actions.\n\n\n\nAll parties
are prepared in advance to take in a structured dialogue about the harm
caused.\nThose involved have a chance to "tell their story" and ask quest
ions of one another.\nThe parties then work together to develop a plan to
repair the harm caused and hold the person whose actions caused the harm
accountable. This plan may include the payment of restitution\, the comp
letion of meaningful community or university service or other creative op
tions.\nThe goal of the plan is both to repair the harm but also to reint
egrate students who have committed conduct violations into the university
community.\n\nThis training will cover basic restorative justice princip
les and will begin to prepare participants to facilitate Victim-Offender
Dialogues in two types of cases: with juvenile offenders referred by the
Greene County Juvenile Office\, and with Missouri State students who have
violated the university Code of Student Rights & Responsibilities.\n\n\n
No prior mediation experience is necessary to become a volunteer victim-o
ffender dialogue facilitator. Additional follow-up training will be provi
ded to program volunteers.\n\n\nA light breakfast and lunch will be provi
ded. Space is limited\, so early registration is recommended.
