SUMMARY:Film Screening and Discussion: "ICAROS: A Vision"
DESCRIPTION:Everyone is invited to view a film screening of "ICAROS: A Vis
 ion\," directed by Leonor Caraballo and Matteo Norzi. Norzi will be at th
 e screening to discuss the film and answer questions.\n\n\nThe film explo
 res the meeting of cultures: the modern West and the indigenous Shipibo c
 ulture in the Peruvian Amazon. Angelina\, an American woman with a fatal 
 disease\, travels to the Amazon in search of a miracle.  There she meets 
 Arturo\, a young indigenous shaman who is losing his eyesight. In their h
 allucinogenic journeys together\, ignited by the psychedelic ayahuasca pl
 ant\, Angelina confronts her "susto\," the fear of disease\; Arturo reali
 zes that he is able to see in the dark and sing his ceremonial healing so
 ngs\, the icaros.\n\n\nIntroductions will be provided by MSU faculty Dr. 
 Marnie Watson (Anthropology) and Dr. Vadim Putzu (Religious Studies).\n\n
