SUMMARY:Bears in the Know Series - “The timber supply is simply inexhausti
 ble”
DESCRIPTION:In the late 19th and early 20th centuries\, Missouri was a cen
 ter of the lime industry in the U.S. This industry consumed massive amoun
 ts of wood to fuel the kilns used in lime production. In this presentatio
 n\, we will discuss our investigation of the effects of this industry on 
 deforestation in the Ozark region of SW Missouri.  Presenters: Elizabeth 
 Sobel\, Professor of Anthropology and Anthropology Program Coordinator an
 d F. Scott Worman\, Assistant Professor of Sociology &amp; Anthropology\n\n\n
