SUMMARY:GGP Seminar: Dr. Aaron Johnson - "Geological Reporting and Public
Investment: How Bre-X Changed the Mining Industry"
DESCRIPTION:The presentation will focus on facts about the Bre-X scandal i
n the mid 1990’s. The results of which\, led to established standards for
ore reserves\, sample assays\, sample collection and associated reports
to be vetted to ensure accurate and ethical reporting for public investme
nt in mining and mineral prospects. The Committee for Mineral Reserves In
ternational Reporting Standards (CRIRSCO) was established at the time and
in concert with the United Nations\, has put in place safeguards to make
it extremely unlikely for a fraud on the scale of Bre-X to occur again.
\n\n\nDr. Aaron Johnson is the Executive Director\, American Institute o
f Professional Geologists. AIPG\, based out of Westminister\, CO\, is the
largest association dedicated to promoting geology as a profession. Dr.
Johnson also serves on the United Nations Economic Commission on Europe’s
(UNECE) advisory committee for the United Nations Framework Classificati
on System (UNFC)\, where he serves as an expert on the Raw Materials and
Professional Development working groups. Dr. Johnson is also a member of
the Task Group for Global Geoscience Professionalism (TG-GGP) under the o
versight of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS). Prior
to his appointment at AIPG\, Dr. Johnson was Associate Professor of Geolo
gy at Northwest Missouri State University\, where he directed the Economi
c Geology program and managed the University Honors Program. He holds a P
h.D. from the University of Missouri at Columbia\, and a B.S. from Missou
ri State University. He lives in Pine\, Colorado\, with his wife and two
