SUMMARY:GGP Seminar: Geography Awareness Week - Linnea Iantria - "In Vino
Veritas: The Truth About the Wines of Italy"
DESCRIPTION:Chianti got a bad rep\, Vesuvius makes it ashy\, a fiasco is a
bigger jar\, and sometimes grapes are trashy. Join MSU professor Linnea
Iantria as she deciphers the “real” story about Italian wines.\n\n\nItali
an wines have been grown since Roman times. The Romans even extended thei
r vineyards as far as Romania and many of those regions continue to produ
ce the same style of wine. Each region of Italy produces a varietal of wi
ne that is often unique\, such as Lacryma Christi which is grown on the s
lopes of Mt. Vesuvius. But wines are also part of cuisine\, not only in t
he recipes of various dishes\, but with regard to how they are paired wit
h particular dishes. And\, did you ever wonder about what happens to the
husks of those grapes that are not part of the process? There's a good st
ory there\, too! Although professor Iantria won't be able to share sample
s of the wines with you\, she will be sharing the truth about the wines o
f Italy.\n\n\nProfessor Iantria is an MSU senior instructor in the Depart
ment of Geography\, Geology and Planning. Her primary interests and exper
ience are in the areas of tourism geography and world regional geography.
