SUMMARY:IoT and Data Analytics for City Utilities - A Computer Science Pre
 sentation
DESCRIPTION:Utilities\, for years\, have inherently been a place of little
or slow change.  We’ve done metering in the same way for 50+ years – all
a very manual process.  Over the last 30+ years\, we’ve built informatio
n systems that are great at collecting data\, but we don’t do much with t
hat data.  Utility companies\, including City Utilities\, are finally emb
racing technology in new ways\, and at the forefront are IoT and data ana
lytics.  This presentation will focus on the business aspects of implemen
ting Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI – an IoT technology) and using
data analytics to improve operating efficiency.\n\n\nChris Hill is the D
irector of Measurement and Advanced Metering at City Utilities in Springf
ield\, MO. He has been with City Utilities for 31 years. Chris has spent
15 years in IT and 10 years in Operations in Technology. The last 6 years
have been focused on building a GIS area and expanding its use throughou
t the company\; and bringing AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) to th
e utility\, including managing the current on-going AMI project. His curr
ent responsibilities include: Electric\, gas and water meter shops\; AMI
Operations\; Data Analytics and overall AMI project management. Chris als
o serves on the Computer Science Department Advisory Board.\n\n\n \n\n\n
