SUMMARY:Amplifying the Voice of Teachers: Reforming Curriculum
DESCRIPTION:Missouri State University invites you to attend the 17th annua
l Public Affairs Conference as a live virtual event Sept. 29-Oct. 1\, 202
0! This year's public affairs theme is The Power of Voice. \n\n\nLinks to
all live webinar events will be listed on the Public Affairs Conference
schedule website.\n\n\nTeachers and professors have a long history of cre
ating their own lesson plans\, assignments and learning activities. Now\,
online “open education resources\,” or OERs\, and other shared teaching
materials in the public domain are gaining popularity. That means educato
rs from the elementary level through the university level are reshaping c
urriculum and instruction\, allowing for amplification of the voices of e
ducators. These accessible and (often free) licensed materials have trans
formed many educators’ course content and pedagogy. Instructors can now p
lan learning through collaboration and information sharing\, rather than
by traditional means. What are the implications of this vast new curricul
ar resource? Are these tools too individualized to be useful on a large s
cale? Are issues\, such as personalization and collaboration\, being over
shadowed by intellectual property concerns? How will professional learnin
g standards and state achievement testing be affected? What are the pros
and cons of expanded teacher efficacy?
