SUMMARY:Public Affairs Conference - Achieving a Balance: A Plea for Eco-So
 cial Justice
DESCRIPTION:Live Zoom webinar panel session (see conference webpage for Zo
om link)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRecent scholarship illuminates numerous ways th
at human and environmental concerns are intricately intertwined. Most peo
ple benefit from driving\, flying\, using plastic bags and disposable dia
pers. But advances and economic growth often have a downside. Damaging en
vironmental crises\, such as the Flint water emergency\, food deserts\, d
eforestation and issues of climate change highlight the uglier side of pr
ogress. How are systemic inequities disproportionately affecting marginal
ized peoples and communities? How can a balance between the emotional and
the logical be achieved when addressing these issues? What role can the
arts and different mediums of expression be the voice for eco-social issu
 es?
