SUMMARY:Public Affairs Conference - Suffering in silence: Let’s talk befor
 e it is too late
DESCRIPTION:Live Zoom webinar panel session (see conference website for Zo
om link)\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMental health is not a singular issue but is woven
throughout many facets of life. From veterans to students to farmers to m
edical professionals\, no demographic is immune from mental illness. The
Centers for Disease Control report that\, despite national prevention eff
orts\, death by suicide is the 10th leading cause of death\, with highest
rates in rural areas. Addressing mental health issues\, especially suici
de\, continues to be a critical public health challenge. Institutional an
d social barriers\, as well as perceived stigma\, leave many people with
little or no support. How can communities better assist veterans to cope
with issues of PTSD and transition back into civilian life? What options
exist to address barriers of isolation\, bullying\, poverty and religion
in the search for mental health solutions? What resources are needed to h
elp people of all ages\, traditions and cultures bridge the gap to access
  needed care?
