SUMMARY:Linguistics Colloquium: Presentation by Dr. Suneeta Thomas
DESCRIPTION:The exploration of code-switching (CS) in dynamic\, spoken Ind
ian English has been limited in published research. The current study exp
lores the genre of sociopolitical talk and qualitatively examines an epis
ode of an Indian English tv talk show employing conversation analysis met
hodology\, and a world Englishes framework to discover the forms\, functi
ons\, and motivations of CS in an English matrix context. As a part of a
larger longitudinal study\, the goal of the project is to map how code-sw
itching patterns and forms in spoken Indian English may change over time
 in sociopolitical talk.
