SUMMARY:Collaborating to Confront Racism Past and Present
DESCRIPTION:Institutional racism checkers America’s past as seen by the 19
th-century displacement of Indigenous children from their families into W
estern schools\, the mid-20th century conflicts over civil rights\, and t
he 21st-century killings of George Floyd and others. Current movements ag
ainst systemic inequality may be divisive\, but the suffering of people u
nder unjust systems of power is nonetheless demanding to be addressed. Ho
w can we integrate the perspectives of affected parties to unpack systems
of privilege and discrimination in a way that leads to systemic change?
How are the dominant historical narratives of our nation implicated in th
e current moment? What are the opportunities for a more equitable future?
How does the relationship between education and indoctrination need to b
e explored\, historically and at present?
