LOCATION:Meyer Library\, Duane G. 101
SUMMARY:Chemistry & Biochemistry Seminar: "Sensient Colors & the Food Indu
stry"
DESCRIPTION:The Chemistry and Biochemistry department will host Jessica Br
uer\, application specialist with Sensient Colors LLC.\n\n\nColor is ever
ywhere! It is in our foods and beverages\, makeup\, personal care product
s\, pharmaceuticals\, and even our lawns and lakes. Learn how color plays
a role in our daily life and how Sensient Technologies elevates consumab
les through sensory ingredients\, such as colors\, flavors and extracts.
Focusing on synthetic and “natural” colorants\, we will explore various c
olor sources and how they each behave in food products. Next time you’re
at the grocery store\, look at the nutrition label of your favorite food
and I bet you’ll find some type of coloring! But adding color to food pro
ducts isn’t as easy as it may seem. \n\n\nThis presentation outlines how
application scientists at Sensient Colors navigate the challenges surroun
ding color stability and compatibility in consumer foods. Did you know ch
eddar cheese isn’t naturally orange? Or that there are colorants used in
the industry today that trace back to cave paintings? Join Bruer to learn
all about food colorants and the science behind their success in the foo
d and beverage industry.
