SUMMARY:GGP Seminar: Dr. Melissa Dickson\, MSU alumna - "Strategies for Su
ccess Before and During Behavior-Based Interviews"
DESCRIPTION:Does the thought of going through the employment process give
you cold feet? Most of us don't relish the thought of it. From filling ou
t the application and writing your resume\, to being "grilled" during the
interview process. There are many strategies to improve your chances of
success starting days\, months\, or even years before the interview begin
 s. Taking advantage of career development opportunities before beginning
the interview process can boost your preparedness and provide you with co
veted visibility to the employer you desire. Careful completion of the ap
plication and resume are also vital components of moving from just anothe
r applicant to garnering an interview slot. Once chosen for an interview\
, statistics show you may capitalize on the behavioral trends of both the
interviewer and the interviewee during the process. While interviewing i
s often considered stressful\, strategic preparation may bolster your con
fidence and give you an edge toward success. This presentation is designe
d to provide practical tips and techniques for making a positive impressi
on during behavior-based interviews. \n\n\nMelissa Dickson is a retired m
anager from Dickerson Park Zoo with over 35 years of experience working w
ith government and nonprofit entities. She believes non-formal education
is a valuable addition to formal education for successfully gaining desir
ed employment opportunities and career development. Melissa has conducted
and completed professional development through higher education\, volunt
eer opportunities\, seminars\, conferences\, and mentoring throughout her
career. Additionally\, she has engaged in scientific research and presen
ted findings in peer-reviewed publications\, managed online training and
research systems\, developed policies and procedures\, conducted direct s
taff training\, and reported to outside governing and government agencies
. Melissa holds a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Conservation and Manage
ment\; a Master of Science in Biology\; and a Master of Business Administ
ration from Missouri State University. She obtained her Doctor of Philoso
