DESCRIPTION:Monika Weiss is a Polish-American artist who creates intermedi
 a works in film and sound\, as well as performance\, drawing and public p
 rojects. Evoking ancient rituals of lamentation\, her art relates to trau
 ma\, history\, mythology and collective memory. Trained as both a pianist
  and a visual artist\, Weiss composes the sound that constitutes many of 
 her works\, considering the vocal-musical-poetic form of lament as a moda
 lity of collective resistance and remembrance. Her exhibitions include Mu
 seum of Memory and Human Rights in Santiago\, Chile\; CSW Zamek Ujazdowsk
 i in Warsaw\, Poland\; Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum\, Miami\, an
 d Lehman College Art Gallery\, City University of New York.\n\n\nHer publ
 ic projects include Drawing Lethe at World Financial Center Winder Garden
 \, New York\, created in response to Sept. 11 site and “Shrouds\,” create
 d on the site of the former German concentration camp in Gruenberg. Her w
