SUMMARY:Visiting Artist Lecture: Selina Trepp - The Problem is the Prompt
DESCRIPTION:Selina Trepp makes art to address problems\, both political an
 d personal. Trepp takes a concern - the environment\, women’s representat
 ion\, capitalism\, demands on her time - and uses a “make-do” approach to
  experiment with what’s on hand to demonstrate alternatives.Making-do dem
 ands economy and improvisation\, a trying-on of fresh perspectives\; her 
 ethics form the aesthetics in her work. \n\n\nTrepp is a Swiss/American a
 rtist researching economy and improvisation. She works across media\, com
 bining performance\, installation\, painting and sculpture to create intr
 icate setups that result in photos\, drawings and animations.\n\n\nTrepp 
 has exhibited nationally and internationally\, including shows at Andrew 
 Rafacz Gallery\, Hyde Park Art Center and DePaul Museum of Art\, all in C
 hicago\; Plug Projects in Kansas City\; The Front Gallery in New Orleans\
 ; Centre Culturel Suisse in Paris\; and numerous galleries in Zurich\, Sw
 itzerland.\n\n\nIn addition to the studio-based work\, Trepp is active in
  the music scene. She performs with a varying cast of collaborators and a
 s one half of Spectralina\, her long running audiovisual collaboration wi
 th Dan Bitney.
