SUMMARY:PAMS Seminar: "Accelerated Variational Quantum Eigensolver with Jo
int Bell Measurement" by Chenfeng Cao
DESCRIPTION:Chenfeng CaoHong Kong University of Science &TechnologyCenter
for Quantum Technologies\n\n\nAbstract:\n\n\nIn this talk\, I will introd
uce a protocol termed joint Bell measurement VQE to reduce the number of
measurements and speed up the VQE optimization. VQE stands as a prominen
t quantum-classical hybrid algorithm for near-term quantum computers to o
btain the ground states of molecular Hamiltonians in quantum chemistry. H
owever\, due to the non-commutativity of the Pauli operators in the Hamil
tonian\, the number of measurements required on quantum computers increas
es significantly as the system size grows\, which may hinder practical ap
plications of VQE. Our method employs joint Bell measurements\, enabling
the simultaneous measurement of the absolute values of all expectation va
lues of Pauli operators present in the Hamiltonian. Our approach can also
be utilized in various quantum algorithms whose cost functions are the e
xpectation values of many Pauli operators.\n\n\n\n\n\nThis is a Zoom semi
