SUMMARY:CS Seminar - Dr. Praveen Rao
DESCRIPTION:Title: Efficient Variant Calling on Human Genome Sequences Usi
ng a GPU-Enabled Commodity Cluster\n\n\nHuman genome sequences are very l
arge in size and require significant computer and storage resources for p
rocessing and analysis. Variant calling is a key task performed on an ind
ividual's genome to identify different types of variants. Knowing these v
ariants can lead to new advances in disease diagnosis and treatment. In t
his talk\, I will present a new approach for accelerating variant calling
pipelines on a large workload of human genomes using a commodity cluster
with graphics processing units (GPUs).\n\n\nSpeaker: Dr. Praveen Rao is
a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering
and Computer Science at the University of Missouri. His research interes
ts are in the areas of big data management\, data science\, health inform
 atics\, and cybersecurity.\n\n\n\n\n\nZoom link:\n\n\nJoin Zoom Meeting h
