DESCRIPTION:Ribbon cutting at 3 p.m.Open house until 6 p.m.Missouri State 
 University’s Global Education Lab (GEL) is a collaborative place for teac
 hing and learning about the world and its people. The GEL houses several 
 of the College of Education’s global initiatives and materials used by te
 acher candidates.The Global Teacher Education Exchange brings new and fut
 ure K-12 educators from Missouri State and the MENA region into a vibrant
  professional learning community where they engage in cross-cultural coll
 aboration and prepare to teach for global understanding. Participants lea
 rn with and from each other through weekly online\, face-to-face workshop
 s where they engage with international experts in teacher training. Since
  its founding in 2020\, more than 900 educators from MSU\, Morocco\, Liby
 a and beyond have participated.Removing Barriers is a collaborative progr
 am with MSU’s English Language Institute. Through it\, future educators l
 earn how to teach English lessons to adult multilingual learners. Teacher
  candidates take that learning into the community where they host session
 s that teach English lessons to adults and provide literacy enrichment fo
 r their children. Through this program\, teacher candidates apply theory 
 to practice to better understand the connections between homes\, schools 
 and communities.Global Teacher Talks give faculty from MSU and their inte
 rnational colleagues opportunities to collaborate in the production of we
 binars and workshops about teaching and learning with international schol
 ars\, leaders and education innovators. Past topics have included action 
 research\, the challenges and promises of distance learning\, social-emot
 ional learning\, civic education and integrating virtual exchange into te
 acher preparation.The World Teacher Makerspace offers supplies for teache
 r candidates who are creating lessons about the world and its people\, in
 cluding materials from public diplomacy programs and international organi
 zations.The projects housed in the GEL are supported by many sources incl
 uding grants and donations.
