SUMMARY:Entanglements: Aaron McIntosh Exhibit at the Carolla Arts Exhibiti
 on Center
DESCRIPTION:Aaron McIntosh interrogates the intertwined relationships betw
een humans and plants — our interdependence\, our co-evolution and our hi
story of hierarchies — across many artistic mediums. In Entanglements\, t
he artist takes up the metaphoric potential of plant life where he finds
speculative roots to scaffold and explore queer ecologies. McIntosh rejec
ts colonialist and heteronormative paradigms that dominate botany in its
perpetual “othering” of queerness. Instead\, he asks how might we imagine
queerness through the sexual and gender-variant dynamisms present in the
plant world.\n\n\nBy embedding queerness into representations of nature\
, McIntosh envisions a world where diverse queer bodies across time and s
pace are enmeshed with plant life — and where their quilted display envis
ions new futures for queer and botanical kinship.\n\n\nEntanglements is o
pen at the Carolla Arts Exhibition Center Jan. 25-March 1. We will also c
elebrate the exhibit during First Friday Art Walk\, Feb. 2 and March 1 fr
 om 6-9 p.m.
