SUMMARY:SEES Seminar: "Current Issues in Housing Design: A Thematic Explor
 ation"
DESCRIPTION:Housing has been the fundamental "backdrop" for virtually ever
y aspect of human life. It envelopes and sculpts our experience\, all the
while being defined and re-defined by our needs\, values and resources.
This reciprocal dynamic has been a steadfast characteristic for housing o
ver thousands of years. Nevertheless\, the numerous disruptive changes in
society\, finance\, environment and technology over the last two decades
set a stage for an unprecedented evolution and moving into the 21st cent
ury\, it is not speculative to assume that the issues surrounding housing
design will transform with greater velocity.\n\n\nDrawing on the insight
s from his newly published\, edited volume of "Transforming Issues in Hou
sing Design\," Kutay Güler will dissect the last two decades of shifting
dynamics\, practices\, challenges and reforms tied to housing design. His
discussion will cover the pivotal themes explored in the volume: afforda
 bility\, demographics\, inclusivity\, sustainability\, environment\, COVI
D-19 and technology. The objective is to paint the audience a picture of
the increasingly fluid landscape of housing design issues\, anticipating
how the many transformations will unfold into the future and redefine dai
ly life.\n\n\nGüler is a multi-award winning interior architect and acade
mician based in Manhattan\, Kansas. His research efforts focus on the int
ersection of environmental design dynamics and digital tools. He publishe
d four books\, including "Contemporary Issues in Housing Design" and rece
ntly "Transforming Issues in Housing Design" by Wiley. In addition to his
academic work\, he has completed over 60 commercial and residential inte
riors along with many other design and visualization projects for an inte
 rnational clientele.
