SUMMARY:Bears In The Know Luncheon Series: Veterans Treatment Courts
DESCRIPTION:An Examination of Courts on the Frontlines: Assessing the Crim
 inal Justice System’s Response to Offenders with a History of Military Se
 rvice\n\n\nVeterans Treatment Courts (VTC) are currently the fastest grow
 ing specialty court in the United States. They aim to target the underlyi
 ng causes and correlates of criminal behavior in offenders with a history
  of military service in effort to reduce recidivism and future contact wi
 th the criminal justice system. This presentation provides an overview of
  the development and dissemination of the VTC concept across the United S
 tates\, as well as the challenges both these courts and their participant
 s are facing. Additionally\, the preliminary impact of VTCs will be exami
 ned. The presentation will include information and results from various o
 riginal data collection efforts conducted by Dr. Julie Baldwin\, Assistan
 t Professor of Criminology.\n\n\nThe luncheon will be held in the Turner 
 Family Hospitality Room on the first floor of the Kenneth E. Meyer Alumni
  Center. Complimentary parking is available in the attached garage off of
  McDaniel Street. Feel free to arrive any time after 11:30 a.m. Lunch wil
 l be served at approximately 11:30 a.m.\, followed by the program at noon
