DESCRIPTION:Dr. Henry Lovejoy (University of Colorado Boulder) will be giv
 ing the keynote address for the 2016 Mid America Alliance for African Stu
 dies Conference.  All students\, faculty and the general public are welco
 me to attend the talk without paying the conference registration fee.\n\n
 \nThe title of the talk is "The Digital Humanities and African History: L
 inking Space and Time to Objects and Events." It will examine the current
  state of Digital Humanities in African and African-American History by f
 ocusing on approaches\, strategies and challenges related to the developm
 ent of West Africa Historical GIS. The project shows how diverse African 
 communities interacted globally and offers data visualization and new kno
 wledge about Africa and the African diaspora.  Digital initiatives\, incl
 uding this one\, can connect digital objects to rebuild the life historie
 s for tens of thousands of liberated Africans registered throughout the A
 tlantic World in different periods.
