SUMMARY:Public Affairs Conference - Religion and the public good in 21st c
 entury America
DESCRIPTION:The religious landscape has changed in the United States. Incr
easingly\, individuals\, sometimes called the Nones\, claim no affiliatio
n with organized religion\, but for the most part\, maintain their self-u
nderstanding as spiritual persons. Historically\, religious groups have c
ontributed much to the common good by means of the schools\, colleges\, h
ospitals\, orphanages and other social service organizations they have fo
unded and maintained. If individuals increasingly eschew organized religi
on\, what is its long-term viability? What will become of the valuable pu
blic benefits organized religion provides? How should religious communiti
es adapt to these changed (and changing) circumstances?
