SUMMARY:Public Affairs Conference - Life and freedom of choice: Euthanasia
 \, abortion\, stem cell research
DESCRIPTION:In recent years\, advances in the scientific community have in
cluded methods to end the lives of individuals and the unborn\, and these
advances have raised important questions about how\, when or even if the
se procedures should be used. The American Medical Association has influe
nce on governmental legislation regarding these issues\, and the differen
t specialty colleges of medicine have standards of care and committee opi
nions.  What are the moral concerns involving the process of making decis
ions about one’s own body?  How should stem cell research and genetic eng
ineering be regulated?  What are the underlying issues that individuals a
nd communities need to address when faced with end-of-life decisions?
