SUMMARY:Public Affairs Conference - Alcohol\, tobacco and other drugs: Pub
 lic enemy #1
DESCRIPTION:Substance abuse is identified as a major health concern across
the nation.  Rural youth\, in particular\, are at greater risk than thei
r urban counterparts to abuse alcohol\, prescription drugs and illicit dr
ugs like methamphetamines\, inhalants and heroin. Rural areas lack the ba
sic substance abuse treatment services and detox services necessary for p
ositive outcomes. Understanding the problems requires a systems view of e
nvironmental factors which contribute to the problem. What are viable str
ategies to reduce substance abuse\, through prevention\, education\, enfo
rcement of drug laws and access to care in both urban and rural settings?
