SUMMARY:Fresh Check Day
DESCRIPTION:Fresh Check Day is the signature program of The Jordan Porco F
oundation (JPF). JPF works closely with colleges to plan and fund Fresh C
heck Day in an effort to bring awareness of mental health resources and c
oping strategies to college campuses. It is a celebratory fair-like event
  that includes:\n\n\n\nInteractive expo booths\nPeer-to-peer messaging\nS
upport of multiple campus departments and groups\nFree food\nEntertainmen
t\nExciting prizes and giveaways\n\nFresh Check Day aims to create an app
roachable atmosphere where students are encouraged to engage in dialogue
about mental health. Fresh Check Day helps to build a bridge between stud
ents and the mental health resources and programs that exist on campus\,
in the community\, and on a national level. Using a peer-to-peer messagin
g model\, Fresh Check Day utilizes student groups in addition to college/
university staff to develop and execute interactive booths that deliver m
ental health and resource information in a fun and engaging way.\n\n\nThe
program's primary goals are to:\n\n\n\nIncrease awareness of mental heal
th resources and services available to students\nReduce stigma and miscon
ceptions around mental health and suicide that often deter individuals fr
om seeking help\nEmpower peers to be gatekeepers by understanding warning
signs and knowing what to do if a friend is exhibiting signs of suicide
or mental health concern\nIncrease willingness to ask for help is experie
ncing emotional distress\n\nTo ensure successful implementation and conti
nued campus mental health and suicide prevention initiatives\, Fresh Chec
k Day thrives on full endorsement and support from higher level administr
ation. By engaging the entire college community in this campus-wide movem
ent\, students are reminded that they are not alone and their mental heal
th is valued just as much as their physical health or their academic stan
 ding.
