SUMMARY:Thesis Defense: Tamzid Ibn Minhaj\, Physics\, Astronomy & Material
s Science
DESCRIPTION:Graduate student Tamzid Ibn Minhaj will present his thesis def
ense on Thursday morning\, May 18 at 10:00 AM. Tamzid is a masters candid
ate in Materials Science. His topic is "Study of Copper and Aluminum Modi
fied Chromium Oxide Inverted Core-Shell Magnetic Nanoparticles". \n\n\nDu
e to the fact that their magnetic properties are quite tunable\, magnetic
core shell nanoparticles (CSNs) have become established as one of the mo
st promising class of nanomaterials for magnetic and medicinal applicatio
ns. They have a wide range of potential applications including but not li
mited to spintronic devices\, spin valves\, magnetic recording media\, an
d cancer treatment (using hyperthermia).
