SUMMARY:PAW Presentation with Dr. Eboo Patel - Our Common Life: Sustainabi
lity through Interfaith Connections
DESCRIPTION:In a world where diverse faith communities interact with great
frequency and intensity\, how can we both preserve the particularities o
f our distinct faith traditions while promoting positive interfaith coope
ration? How can interfaith interaction improve cultural competency and r
elationships in ways that strengthen our civil society? \n\n\nJoin Dr. E
boo Patel in discovering possibilities to these questions and many more.
\n\n\nDr. Patel founded Interfaith Youth Core on the idea that religion
should be a bridge of cooperation rather than a barrier of division. He i
s inspired to build this bridge by his identity as an American Muslim nav
igating a highly religiously diverse social landscape. For more than 15 y
ears\, he has worked with governments\, social sector organizations and c
ollege and university campuses to help make interfaith cooperation a soci
al norm. Named by U.S. News & World Report as one of America’s Best Leade
rs of 2009\, Dr. Patel served on President Obama’s Inaugural Faith Counci
l and is the author of Acts of Faith\, Sacred Ground and Interfaith Leade
rship. He holds a doctorate in the sociology of religion from Oxford Univ
ersity\, where he studied on a Rhodes scholarship.
