DESCRIPTION:Professor James Ceaser of the University of Virginia will deli
 ver a public lecture titled\, "Free Speech and Thought on College Campuse
 s." \n\n\nProfessor Ceaser is the Harry F. Byrd Professor of Politics at 
 the University of Virginia\, where he has taught since 1976. He is the au
 thor of several books\, including Presidential Selection\, Liberal Democr
 acy and Political Science and Nature and History in American Political De
 velopment. Since 1992\, he has co-authored a series of books on American 
 national elections\, with a volume appearing every four years. Professor 
 Ceaser has held visiting professorships at several European universities.
 \n\n\nIn 1996\, the U.S. Army awarded Professor Ceaser the "Joint Meritor
 ious Unit Award for Total Engagement" for his role in helping to establis
 h the George C. Marshall Center for European Security Studies in Garmisch
 \, Germany. He has also served on the National Archives' National Histori
 cal Publications and Records Commission and is a frequent contributor to 
 the popular press. \n\n\nThis event is sponsored by the Jack Miller Cente
 r's Constitution Day Initiative and by the Political Science Department. 
 It is free and open to the public.
