SUMMARY:GGP Seminar: Janice Greene - "Bull Shoals Field Station\, Migratin
 g Birds and Geography"
DESCRIPTION:GGP Seminar by Dr. Janice Greene\, MSU Biology Department\, wi
ll present\, "Bull Shoals Field Station\, Migrating Birds and Geography."
\n\n\nThe Bull Shoals Field Station (BSFS) supports research and educatio
n about the Ozarks. An overview of programs\, facilities and habitats wil
l be presented with an emphasis on the bird monitoring programs. For 10 y
ears\, birds have been monitored and banded at BSFS. More than 400 birds
have been banded\; some are resident birds and some are nwotropical migra
nts. Approximately half of the 900 bird species in the U.S. and the 400 s
pecies in Missouri are migratory. Migratory birds travel great distances
across many country boundaries\, cultures and habitats\, which create dif
ficult management issues. Examples of organizations and their projects th
at work with these various groups will be shared.
