SUMMARY:Bear Breaks Weekend Immersion: Health and Wellness in Our Community
DESCRIPTION:If you would like a taste of immersion without commiting to a
whole weekend or week\, join us in this experience. This is your opportun
ity to learn more about the health of our community in Springfield\, Miss
ouri. \n\n\nMind and Body: Health and Wellness in Our Community\n\n\nIn S
pringfield\, the priority health issues are lung disease\, cardiovascular
disease and mental health. Tobacco use is around 21% in Springfield\, th
ree points higher than the national average and this drastically affects
the health of individuals. Smoking causes 87% of all lung cancer deaths a
nd 32% of coronary heart disease deaths. Because of this\, health care ac
cess and mental health are important areas of focus. During this immersio
n\, we will serve with organizations developing steps to combat these iss
ues and work toward understanding our own health and wellness. We will le
arn about the root causes of health issues in Springfield and recognize h
ow we can take steps to change these numbers in the future.\n\n\nParticip
ants will be starting the morning with yoga\, learning about health issue
s within our community and serving with Springfield Community Gardens in
 the afternoon.\n\n\nLunch will be provided.
