SUMMARY:PAMS Dept. Seminar featuring Dr. Mark Hersam of Northwestern Unive
 rsity
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Mark Hersam will present on: Mixed-Dimensional van der Waa
ls Heterostructures for Electronic and Energy Applications.\n\n\nHis talk
will be about the development of new and advanced (ultra-thin) nanomater
ials\, which can find applications in a wide range of fields including en
 gineering\, physics\, chemistry\, biology\, computer science and biomedic
al science.  \n\n\nDr. Hersam's Bio:\n\n\nDr. Mark C. Hersam is the Walte
r P. Murphy Professor of Materials Science and Engineering and Director o
f the Materials Research Center at Northwestern University. He is one the
very few recipients of  the MacArthur Fellowship (an honor sometimes ref
erred to as the “Genius Grant”). He holds additional faculty appointments
in the Departments of Chemistry\, Applied Physics\, Medicine\, and Elect
rical Engineering and Computer Science at Northwestern University. His re
search interests include nanofabrication\, scanning probe microscopy\, se
miconductor surfaces and nanoelectronic materials. Dr. Hersam has also re
ceived many other  prestigious honors\, including the Presidential Early
Career Award for Scientists and Engineers\, TMS Robert Lansing Hardy Awar
d\, AVS Peter Mark Award\, MRS Outstanding Young Investigator\, U.S. Scie
nce Envoy and seven Teacher of the Year Awards. Dr. Hersam is the co-foun
der of NanoIntegris\, which is a commercial supplier of nanoelectronic ma
terials\, and an elected member of the National Academy of Inventors.
